Isel House Stoke : Seismic Strengthening

By the year 2000, this historic Nelson landmark had deteriorated to the stage where the Council had to decide whether to demolish or strengthen the building, to ensure the safety of the public visiting the grounds and adjoining park. We are all pleased the building still stands today.

Timber diaphragms, steel beams, reinforced concrete, steel tie-rods and stone walls in shear were used to provide a high level of seismic resistance to the thick stone walls.
